Rethink35 Newsletter - May 2025

Thanks to the incredible support from you and so many others, we’ve had some huge successes this Spring. Read on to hear the latest! TxDOT Replies to Our I-35 Lawsuit (and we’re not impressed)

Many folks have been asking about our I-35 lawsuit against TxDOT. Fear not: The lawsuit IS still marching toward the courts. A hearing is expected soon, and you’ll be the first to know.

Recently, TxDOT responded to our lawsuit’s claims. Suffice to say, we’re not impressed. TxDOT, expect a response from us soon, and then we’ll see you before the judge.

Thanks to You, We Just Made BIG Progress at CAMPO!

In April and May, our supporters and allies sent 5,200 emails (!) to CAMPO (our regional government planning organization) demanding more funding for transit, walking, and bicycling - and turning away from endless highway expansions.

YOU and other supporters spoke out, and CAMPO listened! On May 12th, CAMPO agreed to set up two committees to explore changes to how it selects transportation projects. We’re only just begun to turn the tide at CAMPO, but this was a huge first step. Watch this space for updates and how you can help. And thank you!

Rethink35 Takes a Position on I-35 Cap & Stitch

Image of proposed cap and stitch projects

On Monday, Rethink35 sent a letter to Austin City Council conveying our recommendations and concerns regarding the I-35 Cap & Stitch program. We also urged Council to consider other ways to address I-35’s harms, including bike-pedestrian crossings across I-35 in other parts of town.

Council’s decision on I-35 Cap & Stitch is tomorrow.
